11.05 - Belgian Quadrupel with Oak & Cherries
This years 11.05 presents a deep, burnt ruby red with a thick creamy tan head. Aromas of candied fruit, a touch of coca, cherries and fresh oak start things off. Rich and creamy, this contemplative ale is malt forward and full bodied; sweet without being cloying. The elevated alcohol is apparent but not overwhelming. No one would ever confuse this one for a “crusher”, but a slight acidity from the cherries and a relatively high carbonation helps ease up the heaviness to promote a little drinkability. While the beer displays bold flavours of sweet malt upfront, a distinct spiciness from the yeast and European hops adds complexity through the middle. All ending with a long, satisfying, fruity finish.
A definite slow sipper with a dense, complex body, this years 11.05 is a great beer on its own or as an accompaniment to your favourite dessert.
